TMNT: Mutant Mayhem Producers Address Casting Mutant Characters in BTS Clip

In CBR's exclusive clip, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem's cast and crew discuss the inclusion of Bebop, Rocksteady, Ray Fillet, and Mondo Gecko.

CBR can debut an exclusive clip from the upcoming digital release's bonus features for the animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

From Paramount Home Entertainment, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem will be made available for digital rentals and purchases on Sept. 1. All bonus features will be included with the digital release, including this new clip. The video goes behind the scenes into the making of the film, shining a light on casting some of the other mutant characters. That includes the classic villains Bebop and Rocksteady, respectively voiced by co-writer/producer Seth Rogen and John Cena. Fellow co-writer and producer Evan Goldberg joked that they'd just used Rogen to get Cena involved.

The exclusive clip also takes a look at the character Mondo Gecko, played by Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Paul Rudd. Director Jeff Rowe noted how the actor got the role as he's "funny and likeable," which was the vibe needed for Mondo Gecko. Rogen, Goldberg, and fellow producer James Weaver also shared the story of how they were able to get Post Malone to get involved as the voice of Ray Fillet, a henchman for Ice Cube's Superfly. They address how Post Malone happened to be a huge TMNT fan, and as Rogen reveals, that led to the group realizing they may be enough to actually get him involved.

Some of the teenage voice actors are also briefly shown in the clip. The filmmakers had previously stressed the importance of casting actual teens to provide the voices of the titular characters for added authenticity. That includes Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Micah Abbey as Donatello, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, and Brady Noon as Raphael. The star-studded cast also includes Ayo Edebiri as April O'Neil, Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom, Jackie Chan as Splinter, and Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman.

It's already been announced that a sequel to TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is in the works, so fans can be sure that there will be much more to come from this incarnation of the Heroes in a Half-Shell. Additionally, a two-season tie-in series was also announced at Paramount+. The idea for the series is to serve as a bridge between the first and second movies. Having two seasons will also allow for each of the characters to have plenty of time to shine on their own.
